Individual Tutoring

  • Plan for Electronic Payment
    • Download a cash sending app: Cash App, Venmo, etc.
    • Sponsored Programs Only (Free Individual Tutoring)
      • Tutors will request your signature to validate your session . The Sign Easy app is one way for the tutee and tutor to send, sign and return documents.
  • Joining an Online Tutoring Session Using Zoom
  • Know what you need help with and what you want to accomplish.
  • Attempt homework assignments before arriving for a session and have specific questions ready.
  • Start your research/compile the necessary information.
  • Think of specific questions you want to ask the tutor.
  • Attempt (and complete, if possible) every question on your latest homework assignment for this subject before you meet with your tutor. Note where you struggle and point out the specific difficulties.

Online Sessions (be sure you have your tutor’s Zoom meeting ID):

  • Upload or take a photo of the documents you may need during a session; save the documents to your computer.
  • Set up your workspace in a noise-free, private and well-lit location.
  • Check your devices (test & update) before your session starts (10-15 mins).
  • The tutor will assist you with practicing and working thru example problems and scenarios.
  • The tutor will help you understand concepts and strategies for approaching problems so that you are able to do your work independently.
  • The tutor will listen attentively to your concerns and assist with review of course material.
  • The tutor will help clarify assignments, help identify problem areas, and help develop strategies to address them.
  • The tutor will help you learn effective study skills.
  • The tutor will provide you the time to work independently and will assist with practice problems.
  • Your privacy is important to us. Our tutors maintain confidentiality and abide by all FERPA guidelines.
  • Your tutor will not complete homework or graded work of any kind.
  • Your tutor will not give answers to homework questions.
  • Your tutor will not help “cram” for a test.
  • Your tutor will not help with take-home tests or quizzes, though they will help with similar practice problems.
  •  Your tutor will not teach you new material. If you miss class, you must get the information you have missed from a classmate or from the professor.
  • Your tutor will not write, proofread or edit papers.
  • Textbook
  • Class notes and other useful class materials
  • Pen/pencil
  • Class syllabus
  • Assignments (including any assignment sheets or instructions)
  • Student ID#
  • Take notes on explanations and instructions for working through problems.
  • Explain to the tutor your learning style–how you approach or think about a problem–so the tutor can help you accordingly.
  • Pay close attention to the way the tutor approaches a problem so you can try that method when the tutor is not around.
  • If receiving help in the Tutoring Center, be mindful of other students and keep your voice at a reasonably low volume when speaking with other students or tutors.
