PRACTICE:

Before attending your next class, prepare to take notes by doing the following:

  • Do the assigned reading and take notes on it
  • Write down any questions you have about the topic
  • Review notes from previous lectures
  • Review any end-of-chapter questions
  • Bring notes from reading and any questions you have to class
WATCH:

In this video, you will learn about one specific style of notetaking — Cornell Notes.


PRACTICE:
  • Try taking Cornell notes in one of your classes. Be sure to actively listen and use abbreviations.
  • Within 12-24 hours after class, complete the keywords and questions in the left margin and the summary at the bottom of your notes.

PRACTICE:

Reformat notes that you’ve recently taken in class. For example, if you took Cornell notes, you might create a timeline or a mind map. You can use these examples as inspiration.
